The Daily Read: HOF Brings Legends Together

 Today's news and notes ...

A trio from the Kansas City Star starts us off ... The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame honored Magic Johnson and Larry Bird on Sunday.   Blair Kerkoff, a BT contributor, remembers when an epic meeting between the two giants changed the college game forever ... Oh, and the coach of that game, Jud Heathcote, was inducted as well.  As it turns out, he hasn't missed a beat and continues coaching is successor, Tom Izzo, on a weekly basis ...  And lastly, Walter Byers, the first executive director of the NCAA, didn't show up for his NCB Hall of Fame induction ... and no one is surprised.
Kevin McNamara, a friend of Basketball Times, explains that Memphis will do just fine without John Calipari, from the Providence Journal.  Also from McNamara, why not have an all-Rhode Island college hoops tournament to start the season?

Tonight we're keeping an eye on ...
Cincinnati vs. Vanderbilt, 5:30 p.m. ... Lance's national television (ESPN2) debut.

(10) Tennessee vs. (7) Purdue, 9:30 p.m. ... The Paradise Jam went exactly as expected.  Vols-Boilermakers was what everyone wanted to see.
Arizona vs. Wisconsin, Midnight ... Sean Miller, Zona's fresh new coach, vs. Bo Ryan, Wisconsin's wiley, old general.
